Job Description: Lead Desktop Systems Engineer
General Description: Our client is looking for a Lead Desktop Systems Engineer for a 3-6 month contract who will work with technology and business leaders to specify, design, develop and maintain enterprise desktop architecture, PC lifecycle and system standards, including laptop and desktop hardware requirements. Provide “Level-3” support of all computing issues related to the their Desktop computing environment. The Lead Desktop Systems Engineer is responsible for the overall architecture, design, deployment, management and administration of the technologies that constitutes the  desktop environment including, but not limited to:
• Electronic discovery and software delivery tools such as Microsoft System Center Configuration Management (SCCM) and JAMF Casper
• Avecto “DefendPoint” security policy solution.
• Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) antivirus solution
• Symantec Desktop Laptop Option (DLO) Backup solution for Executive staff
• Windows Active Directory Group Policies Objects (GPO)
• Microsoft Hyper-V virtual environment solution
• Amazon Workspaces solution
• Windows and Mac OS images The Lead Desktop Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the desktop environment is maintained and maturing:
• Instantiate Desktop Engineering best practices globally in support of 7000+ devices
• Ensure periodic system updates, patching and security standards are adhered to
• Work with other Technical, Infrastructure and Information Security teams to support and secure Scholastic’s infrastructure
• Manage and coordinate software, hardware, and security related releases through change control and release management Requirements:
• 5-10 years’ experience in Desktop Engineering at medium sized enterprise (5000 - 10,000 desktops)
• Strong understanding and experience executing in a technology organization, preferably with Agile delivery experience
• Demonstrated experience in working / liaising with technical vendors
• Strong penchant to deliver, self-learner, and demonstrated ability to
• Demonstrated ability designing, architecting and delivering solutions in an efficient and effective manner that align with business objectives in a creative way (minimizing cost and time to deployment)
• Technical development and quality engineering skills
• Detail oriented, highly organized, punctual, and a strong mentor
• Must have demonstrated proven testing strategies to deliver projects with minimal impact on business users and high success rates
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in an organized and efficient manner with minimal supervision
• Experience working with hardware manufacturers, Microsoft, Apple and third party vendors with an understanding of systems integration
• Experience with Desktop Operating Systems and Device Lifecycle Management
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Visio, and PowerPoint) and system documentation tools
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues in all areas of IT support
• Must have a “can do” attitude and be able to think outside the box to solve a problem
• Must and demonstrate a customer service attitude and commit to consistently providing superior customer service no matter the situation
• Must be a team player who can also work independently with little supervision to accomplish assigned tasks
• BA/BS degree required
• Familiarity with ITIL and PMP frameworks and concepts strongly preferred
