Video Engineer (Focus on Media Distribution, IPVOD, CDN, DAI)
Description:
Next generation content, applications, media (CAM) continue to form our clients future product strategies and offerings. The introduction of new methodologies for product development requires experience in agile development and a keen understanding of how to successfully integrate next generation media services.
 
The primary role comprises responsibilities in solution implementation, certification, integration, and subject matter expertise in next generation IPVOD, Media Distribution, Content Delivery and Cloud Compute Infrastructure within Corporate Lab environments.  This Video Engineer will work with Advanced Engineering, Infrastructure, Software Development, Product and Test teams to build, implement, integrate and operate an IPVOD, CDN and Media Distribution Solutions within Corporate Labs. 
 
 
Essential Functions and Accountabilities
·         Build, Implement and Operate  Content, Application and Media Platform Environments such as IPVOD, Content Delivery Network, Encoding, Transcoding Pre-Production (Lab) environments.
·         Perform Integration of Video Based applications on the physical and virtual environments. 
·         Certify the solutions in Integration environments.
·         Perform functional and nonfunctional testing, load and performance testing, failover testing; summarize test results.
·         Support End to End testing efforts prior to production deployments.
·         Author and Deliver Implementation Guides to Operation teams for production deployments.
·         Establish and maintain current state baseline certification and technology documentation throughout the technology lifecycle, including end-of-life transitions & migrations
·         Foster strategic relationships within our client, and with vendor partners.
 
 
Requirements:
Deep knowledge of network service protocols including - but not limited to - DNS, HTTP, Media streaming technologies, Object Caching, etc. 
Deep knowledge on distribution media delivery models (e.g. CDN) and associated media delivery streaming technologies. 
Understanding of Cloud-Based DVR architectures.
Deep knowledge on streaming media protocols (e.g. HLS, HD, RTSP). 
Extensive experience of video encoding, transcoding, translate, and decode.
Extensive experience and understanding of Video on Demand, Electronic Program Guides, Metadata Management
Knowledge of distributed cloud and storage architectures (e.g. VMWare, OpenStack). 
Understand media container formats including – but not limited to – 3GP, AVI, MPEG2-TS, MPEG program streams, MP4, FLV/F4V, Motion JPEG 2000, H. 264
Operator level experience with Linux with the ability to perform application configuration and administration.
Experience with CLI, Unix shells (bash, csh, other), shell scripting, various OS level daemon services including but not limited to SMTP, SNMP, NTP, DNS, crond, PAM, HTTPd, other.
Experience with infrastructure hardware including bare metal compute and storage components.
Understanding of IPv4 and IPv6 networking.
Understanding of system engineering practice.
Understand Waterfall and Agile product lifecycle development processes.
Deep understanding of network analytics, capacity models and distribution performance statistics. 
Demonstrated ability to work end-to-end at various levels of abstraction, solution definition, solution certification, and operational deployment.
Demonstrated success leading product developments, including substantial technology migration activities.
Creative and optimistic-but-responsible approach to problem solving planning and opportunity-risk mediation.
Demonstrated ability to meet delivery dates for small, medium, and large scale development projects.
Strong ability to analyze and interpret data
Proven technical writer 
Related Work Experience
A combination skill set of Video Engineering, System, Network and Application administration is preferred.  Candidate would ideally have worked in the Telco industry for 5 years or more with exposure to Video based applications.

B.S. Degree in one of the following areas: Information Systems, Software Development, System Administration, Network Administration or CNE (Certified Network Engineer) certification, preferred
