Description: 
A DOCSIS / CMTS engineer will support clients in a lab environment whom rely on services provided through multiple cmts units. These clients depend on services such as data, voice and video as supplied through cmts units. Daily tasks include assisting clients with issues related to cmts operations, troubleshooting reported problems, validating service availability and completing client requests for services. The ideal candidate will have NOC experience or field experience working with a Cable Operator supporting cmts equipment.
 
Technical skills:
  • A working knowledge of the DOCSIS standards D1.0/D1.1, D2.0, D3.0 and D3.1
  • An understanding of modem registration process
  • An understanding of DHCP and the role it plays in the registration process
  • Provisioning of cable modems
  • Experience with CLI access to cmts units
  • IPv4 and IPv6 understanding
  • RF power understanding as it applies to HFC systems
  • Routing knowledge of ISIS, BGP and OSPF
  • DSG and Multicast knowledge
 
Advanced skills – but not required:
  • Use of Spectrum analyzer to view RF plant characteristics to determine frequencies in use and signal quality
  • Linux skills using regular expressions and scripting
  • RF cable termination experience
  • Cisco BAC or Prime
  • Bonus – Amateur Radio License
 
Soft skills:
